Nena and Papa

I got seriously lucky when I married into my Hubby’s family. My In-Laws have claimed me as their own. Our relationship is not the typical “Inlaw” relationship. To me, they are my parents. I have been lucky enough to have this type of relationship more than once in my life.

My Dad has spent the past 2 years battling Stage 4 Colon Cancer. While he kicked it’s ass (recently diagnosed 100% cancer free), the fight has taken a lot out of him. His body is still healing from the effects of the chemo and radiation treatments along with his immune system. The 3-hour trip to see us is still takes too much out of him. My kids and I can only go so long with seeing them. The day after Xmas, we decided to drive for 2 of the 3 hours to see them. We met at a steak house restaurant. I told our waitress we were going to be there for a couple of hours along with the quick reason behind our meeting there. She was incredible about it. We, in turn, tipped her very well for the use of her table.

All of us ordered steaks, baked potatoes, and steamed broccoli. It was 2 hours that we will cherish for a lifetime. I hope my Mom and Dad realize what they mean to both me and my children. Words will never do it justice. My oldest even took off of work early to join us…
